Electronic Health Records (EHR) Worldwide

July 07, 2014

Health information technology is on the rise worldwide. Despite its many advantages, the new technology is not free of flaws. In the US, the Health Information Technology and Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act was implemented to adopt and use health IT in a meaningful way. However, in the recent past, concerns were raised whether the current health IT policy is really in the position to fulfil the high expectations to the degree necessary. In this regard, a white paper has been launched in April 2013 to evaluate whether the health IT programs are effectively implemented.

Australia has recently rolled out a system called Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR). A report reviewing the PCEHR has been published in December 2013. It is available here.
