Webinar given by p-medicine partners on EPEMED now online

June 24, 2014

On June 18, 2014, three partners of the p-medicine consortium were invited to give a webinar on “Personalised Medicine knowledge as a catalyzer for clinical decision making” via EPEMED, the European Personalised Medicine Association (www.epemed.org). The webinar focused on the clinical decision making for new targeted therapies and how this is affected by the information the clinicians have at hand at any given time. Having the right information at the right time can speed up the decision making process across the patient pathway and shorten the time to the right treatment in the best case. The arrival of personalized medicine has changed the information needs and landscape but in what ways? Also the dynamics related to patients themselves as the source of information are discussed during this webinar.

The webinar featured Pr. Dr. Norbert Graf, Director of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at Saarland University and coordinator of p-medicine, who presented the p-medicine initiative, challenges and the framework of tools developed to advance a personalized, predictive, preventive, and participatory medicine; Dr. Spyros Deftereos, SVP, Drug Discovery at Biovista Inc spoke about tools for treatment optimisation based on predicted side-effects; Pr. Gabriella Pravettoni, PhD,  Full Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the Department of Health Sciences, University of Milan, discussed about patients as an important source of information for physicians and how PM is changing the dynamics of patients empowerment.
