Brief description and aims of work
The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is an academic, non-profit foundation recognised of public utility and established in 1998. SIB coordinates research and education in bioinformatics throughout Switzerland and provides high quality bioinformatics services to the national and international research community.
Our Mission is:
- To provide world-class core bioinformatics resources to the national and international life science research community in key fields such as genomics, proteomics and systems biology.
- To lead and coordinate the field of bioinformatics in Switzerland.
The Bioinformatics Core Facility (BCF) is a centre of excellence for applied bioinformatics and biostatistics providing state-of-the-art know-how in data analysis. Through these services it supports biological and biomedical groups in the effective integration of high-throughput laboratory approaches into their research.
The main role of SIB in p-medicine is to assure quality in terms of tools functionalities and users needs and requirements, evaluate and validate, in collaboration with the clinical and IT partners, the tools that will be used and developed.SIB will give feed-backs to the other involved partners and will coordinate the quality assurance activities.
