Brief description and aims of work
The non-clinical partner at USAAR is the Institute for Formal Ontology and Medical Information Science (IFOMIS). The institute was founded in April 2002 utilizing a major grant of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. IFOMIS consists of an interdisciplinary research group, with members from Philosophy, Computer and Information Science, Logic, and Medical Informatics, focusing on theoretically grounded research in both formal and applied ontology. Its goal is to develop a formal ontology that will be applied and tested in the domain of medical and biomedical information science. In the past IFOMIS was also active at training activities on biomedical ontology for an international audience.
IFOMIS was a partner in 6th Framework Programme Network of Excellence 'Data Mining and Semantic Interoperability' and in the European Coordination Action 'RIDE'.
Currently IFOMIS is active in the IP 'Advancing Clinico-Genomic Trials on Cancer' (ACGT) and is a subcontractor to the CIP project 'epSOS' and in the IP 'CHRONIOUS'.
